“A vintage to Your Attention”

Jancis Robinson, English Master of Wine, will be the guest of honor at the Enoteca Regionale del Barolo, for the official presentation of the Barolo DOCG 2009.

Starting from 9th June “A Vintage to Your Attention” comes back in Barolo: the traditional event, organized by the Enoteca Regionale del Barolo in partnership with the Assopiemonte PDO & PGI, this year will present to the industry and the general public the Barolo 2009, and will have as testimonial Jancis Robinson, the “queen” of the English wine writers, one of the most influential and charismatic female voices in the world of communication and literature of the wine.

After a month of preparation, the Technical Committee has selected, among 15 samples of Barolo 2009, the most representative for the “Official Selection”, which will be “dressed” with a label art, created for the occasion by Joe English Tilson.

The presentation of the Barolo 2009 will start on the morning of Sunday, June 9th, at the Castle Falletti of Barolo, with the dedication of the Vintage to Jancis Robinson, and will continue until June 15, with a whole week dedicated to the tasting of new production.

A soon to be announced the complete program of the opening day and will be “revealed” in preview not only the names of the wine makers that participate in the event, but also the “labels” with which you will be attending.

The ‘Wine Tellers’ at the 37th Edition of ‘Vinum’

The wine tellers (Narratori del Vino®) will wait for you at the “Grande Enoteca di Langhe e Roero“, the great presentation of the wines of Langhe and Roero at the Palazzetto Mostre e Congressi (Piazza Medford, 3 – Alba), on Saturday 27th, Sunday 28th April and Wednesday 1st May to entertain you with fun, games and surprises, telling the world of wine through the senses, the territory and its history.

The activities proposed during Vinum will be an example of the Wine-Activities and Wine-Tellings organized on reservation for groups of minimum 4 – maximum 25 people.

The best local experts will be describing the great wines of the Langhe together with their producers.

The Wine Tasting Experience ® is an original tasting event that Strada del Barolo and Consorzio di tutela Barolo Barbaresco organize both for wine-lovers who choose Langhe for their holidays, and wine enthusiasts from all around Europe, who will have the opportunity to attend special events organized in the main capital cities.

Four ways to experience wine

The Wine Tasting Experiences are available all year round, set to four different “formats”: in Italy and abroad, in prearranged dates or completely tailored. The aim is to meet the different needs of the wine lovers.

The first format, the more “traditional”, is the seasonal double calendar with appointments in spring andautumn in some of the most prestigious venues of Langhe: from WiMu to MODA, including wineries and wine shops of the area.

The second option allows tailored tastings for groups of at least six people, who can decide together with the organizers, dates, time, locations and languages (besides Italian: English, French and German) and of course the types of wine to taste.

A third possibility is offered during the great events organized in the Langhe territory: both for Vinum (in May) and the International White Truffle Fair of Alba (October and November) several special appointments are scheduled and included in the event’s calendars.

The fourth format is connected with events for the promotion of Piedmontese wines or during nights dedicated to the regional food and wine products in the main European capitals: already confirmed are the appointments in Brussels and Copenhagen. Also scheduled, in 2013, are Stockholm, Geneva, Zurich, St. Gallen and others – including an event in China.

The Wine Tasting Experiences in Europe are often followed by friendly gatherings and dinners in the capitals’ restaurants. These offer the perfect occasion to talk about Piedmont which, through Barolo and other great wines, reveals everything it can offer: food, wines, tourist destinations and cultural programmes. The result is a promotional initiative of great effect.

Beyond the traditional tasting

Following the example of the French Ecoles du Vin, the experiences will go beyond the traditional tasting in the winery, a classic activity for every wine tourist, most importantly because they will offer the chance totaste bottles from different winemakers at the same time.

The experiences will be led by winemakers, oenologists or experienced sommeliers, each with their own personal point of view, offering insights into the bouquet of a specific glass, pairings between food and wine and the wine’s characteristics in relation to where the vines were grown.

Wine Tasting Experience®: the 2013 calendar

The Wine Tasting Experience®, which along with the traditional tasting also includes a real lesson held by local experts and sommeliers, returns in Spring with a calendar that starts from the 30th March 2013and goes on until the first days of June. On the website www.winetastingexperience.it it is possible to book your event and buy the tickets.

“The crus of the King” and “The taste of the hills” are the two topics that will alternate in the two prestigious locations: WiMu, Wine Museum in Barolo and MODA, Palazzo Martinengo Venue of Monforte d’Alba.

“The crus of the King” is a journey marked by the tasting of five different Barolo labels, through different areas of production of the “king” of all wines, while “The taste of the hills” is a moment which introduces the most traditional of all Piedmontese productions, with the tasting of six different wines such as Arneis, Dolcetto, Barbera, Nebbiolo, Barolo and Moscato.

During Vinum, thanks to the cooperation with the Organizing Board of the Alba International White Truffle Fair , the calendar is enriched with several special events (only in Italian) at Palazzo Mostre e Congressi of Alba:

Every tasting lasts approximately one hour. The cost is 20 € per person and includes the entrance to Vinum and passes for 6 tastings. Booking required.
Side activities 

Together with the appointments of the Wine Tasting Experience®, side activities will be organized in the two locations that will be hosting the events. In order to attract more parents to the tastings, WiMu is thinking about how to involve children. The solution includes:

Saturday 30th March
“A date with Uvetta“: Princess Uvetta will guide the little ones inside the WiMu, discovering the Wine Museum through games and tales. For children aged 4-6, with a snack included at the end of the path.

Saturday 1st June
“The Grate Game of Giacomino“: discovering how to make wine by playing a huge game of Snakes and Ladders, on the ground. For children aged 6-12, with a snack included at the end of the activity.

The activity is totally free for all children who arrive accompanied by parents who are taking part in a Wine Tasting Experience®.

On the contrary, MODA gives the opportunity to have an evening dinner with a complete menu at a cost of 40 € (wine not included).
