Le Strette

Posted on: February 13th, 2013 by Mario Ferrero

Le Strette” is a name that identifies a precise place, a winery excavated in tuff, which melts with its territory and enhances it. The small winery “Le Strette” was founded in Novello in 1997, its name comes from the ancient hamlet in which it is located, in which the original narrow lane passes between some very old houses and leads to an enchanting view over the Langa hills that slope towards the valley, crowned by the Alps, with the vineyards in the foreground.

The owners are Mauro and Savio Daniele. After their studies in oenology and an extended experience as oenologists, their dream has come true: their passion for the vineyards, inherited from their father Giulio and their mother Giuliana, led them to the founding of their own winery, Le Strette, which is family-run, with the help of Gino Lagorio and his family. It is a small winery with a great history. Their production has increased remarkably over the years: from the first 4 thousand bottles in 1997 (Barbera and Dolcetto) to the present yearly production of 18 thousand bottles, obtained from around three and a half hectares of precious vineyards located in the best wine regions of the villages of Novello (Bergera, Pezzole, Pallaretta) and Barolo (Bergeisa). Mauro and Savio adopted a clear business philosophy: to enhance autochthonous vineyards (from the prestigious Nebbiolo to the rarest varieties, such as the Nas-cetta of Novello) to exalt the characteristics of the grapes and the territory. The wine is the final result of this process and the means that express these typical features.

The new winery, finished in 2002, is an example of this compromise between tradition and modernity. Le Strette sells in the USA, Japan, Switzerland, Norway, Germany, Belgium, Denmark and Italy.

Le Case della Saracca

Posted on: February 13th, 2013 by Mario Ferrero

An extraordinary restaurant in the historic center of Monforte d’Alba: four medieval houses in the neighborhood Saracca, the oldest in the town, which have kept their austere silhoutte while inside were gutted and merged to become a restaurant with many small environments.

The philosophy of the restaurant is very clear: the raw materials of excellence and little work in the kitchen to change as little as possible the quality. And then you can find the anchovies from the Cantabrian Sea and the tuna belly grade, the flesh of female fassone or rice Watercolor. Then many traditional dishes, “Finanziera” and dip, a sharp marinated and snails with juniper.

The buildings have been carefully restored to preserve their medieval atmosphere while also being equipped with the latest technology to ensure the ultimate in comfort for an unforgettable holiday. Almost all of the six, completely individual, rooms have their own open log fireplace.

I grappoli

Posted on: February 13th, 2013 by Mario Ferrero

The farmhouse is located in the centre of the town Parafada, in the group of houses on the ridge of the hill facing south-east, just in front of Serralunga.
The name “I Grappoli”, like the logo that distinguishes it, comes from the idea of remembering the four original names of the historic vines of Serralunga. Each room or apartment is named after a single grape variety.

The accommodations are arranged over two floors: Dolcetto and Nebbiolo on the ground floor, Moscato and Barbera on the first floor. The latter are accessible from an external stone and brick staircase rebuilt with historic techniques and architecture.
The street side entrance provides access to the private internal courtyard with a swimming pool for the farmhouse guests’ exclusive use. The area is bordered by a small private garden and patio. The courtyard is enclosed and also includes some children’s games and toys.

To fully enjoy the peace and calm of the farmhouse, we suggest some relaxation under the pergola covered with vines, where you can relax while reading a book or sipping a good glass of wine while looking out over the valley, admiring the geometric landscape of the vineyards with the magnificent castle of Serralunga in the background.

The courtyard leads to the breakfast room where our guests are “pampered” every morning with a breakfast including typical, excellent products: from the best local cured meats and cheeses to jams and fresh sweets… Whether you prefer a savoury or sweet breakfast, it will give you the perfect amount of energy for setting off to enjoy the countless food & wine and nature trails.

Gigi Rosso

Posted on: February 13th, 2013 by Mario Ferrero

Gigi Rosso winery sits in Castiglione Falletto, in the heart of Barolo land. It carries the name of its founder Gigi, one of Barolo’s and Langhe pioneers.  Maurizio and his son Andreas are now managing Gigi Rosso winery. The passage to the second and third generation brings energy and new ideas to the business. Tradition lives on looking forward to the future with passion and dedication for excellent Piedmontese wines. Nowadays, one can visit the winery, take a guided tour, taste the products and see a private collection of Barolo old vintages. It is a way to learn the history and culture of the Langhe as Gigi expressed in his own words: “I was born in the vineyards. I grew up in the vineyards. And the vineyards are my heart and soul. The Langhe are my home. This land gave me a very precious gift. As a thank you, every year, I harvest its fruits and look after them like a mother looks after her babies. They call me enologist, they say I’m a wine expert, they refer to me as a pioneer. But there’s only one truth: when nature speaks I listen. My land tells a unique story and I’m always listening”.

Galfré Antipasti d’Italia

Posted on: February 12th, 2013 by Mario Ferrero

Our company wa founded in 1901 in Piedmont, Barge, at the foot of the hills of Cuneo, a land rich of forest and mushrooms. Galfrè Antipasti has developed, through two centuries, a rich culture of how to treat and preserve these mushrooms, by using natural methods. The founder of our Company Lorenzo Galfrè was a mushroom trader and he and his wife decided to preserve these mushrooms in “burnie” (glass jar) with olive oil in order to be eaten for a whole year. They started working in a old building in the historical part of the town centre and their home wassituated on the floor below. It was an immediate success. Their first customers came from the elite of the Turin shops and the restaurants whicht catared to the nobility of that time.

Galfrè’s reputation increased and it became the Royal Family’s supplier in their Racconigi residence, while their mushrooms “Bulè” started to become popular beyond the borders of Piedmont. Naval companies began to make their firts orders. At that point, the family company made a brave decision to make the family business grow. The idea was to write a recipe book with local Piedmontese recipes. This cook book contained the secrets and the original recipes explaining how to prepare the appetizers: a combination of tuna, mushrooms and vegetables, in a typical sauce, by following a secret recipe containing vinegar and fresh aromas, and put in oak barrels… Follow us on www.facebook.com/GhiottoGalfre

Gabutti di Boasso Franco

Posted on: February 12th, 2013 by Mario Ferrero

The Gabutti Winery was set up in the early 1970s when the Boasso family started to make its own wine from the grapes grown in the family-owned vineyards. It was named after one of the most renowned areas of Barolo wine production; the Gabutti area was previously classified by Renato Ratti as a first-class sub-zone.

The family-run company is managed by Franco Boasso and produces wine from the grapes grown on 4.5 hectares located within the Serralunga district, in the sub-zones of Gabutti, Meriame and Margaria. Special attention is dedicated to work in the vineyards in the conviction that great wines are produced from prime quality grapes.

“I Grappoli” is the name given to the self-catering accommodation created after the recent refurbishment and restoration of an old building about 300 metres away from the winery. It now houses a number of separate rooms and apartments, each with independent external access. The rooms are simple, comfortable, spacious, well lit and airy. Each apartment has its own balcony or private terrace.
