Like the French Ecole Du Vin, the appointments will go beyond the traditional tastings that take place in one cellar. Here the wine lovers will have the opportunity to compare different labels of different producers during the same session.

Added value for the wine lovers will be given in the form of experts of the territory who will be present and able to reveal every secret of the wines and will be ready to satisfy any curiosity: the “teachers” are, in fact, producers, oenologists or sommeliers with great experience, each one with a personal point of view. They will discuss the value of the perfumes in a stem of wine, the pairings between wine and food as well as the characteristics of the wines in relation to the municipality where the vineyards are grown.

Questions from the public, in-depth moments and curiosities, suggestions for tasting, wines of producers that are always different and, not last, the prestigious locations where the tastings will take place: all these elements make the Wine Tasting Experiences® a new way to approach the discovery of wine, and they also represent a unique occasion to discover, in detail, the production of the Langhe and Roero region.

With special attention to the increasingly numerous foreign wine tourists, the Wine Tasting Experiences® are also held in English, the best way to satisfy the needs of the wine lovers from all over the world to discover every aspect of the wine growing and making of the area.

In order to make the Wine Tasting Experiences® more experiential and directly involve the participants, the teachers will use a supporting video, rich in infographics and interactive maps, which the participants will have the opportunity to use on their mobile phones and tablets during the tastings. Moreover, access to the content will also be available the day after the Wine Tasting Experience®.

In addition to the scheduled appointments, it is always possible to organize a tailored Wine Tasting Experience® exclusively for groups of at least six people, who will be able to decide, together with the organizers, the date, time location, languages (besides Italian, English, French and German are also available) and of course the choice of the selection of wines to taste!

tɛrra, the International Cooking School of White Truffle is opening in the Roddi Castle

Posted on: November 2nd, 2015 by Mario Ferrero

Friday, October 30th, inaugural toast with the wines of Strada del Barolo. Saturday, October 31st and Sunday, November 1st, two open days with free tours.

Its name will be tɛrra and will be opened on Friday, October 30th: it’s the International School of Alba White Truffle, which has found its home in the Roddi Castle. The name recalls the deep bond with the territory and focuses on three key ingredients: authenticity, locality and excellence of raw materials.

The Barolo & Castles Foundation, to which the Municipality of Roddi has given the custody of the castle kitchens, entrusted the Academy FoodLab of Turin – school of excellence in the culinary Piedmontese scenario, deeply rooted in the region capital – to provide a soul to a project that started out a few months ago, taking care of content and educational organization.

The International School of Alba White Truffle

tɛrra will host amateur and professional courses in Italian, English and French, in order to spread the enormous richness of the local cuisine and that of the Alba White Truffle. Some 600 square meters of total area and a modern kitchen with teaching stations equipped for 14 people, each with LCD monitor to better understand the chef’s teaching. But also wide spaces to create settings for business events, a classroom to organize tasting courses with local wines, which will soon become home to the Wine Tasting Experience®, a professional kitchen and a hall that in the future might become a dining room.

tɛrra will propose totally practical lessons, tutoring in Italian, English and French, traditional dishes of Piedmont and the Langhe territory, with particular attention to the use of truffles in all its forms. Furthermore, tasting of the precious Tuber Magnatum Pico, the use of white truffles and black truffles in the kitchen, cooking lessons lasting from two hours to half a day, in the morning and the afternoon. Finally, tailored lessons for lunch and dinner and, on request, every day of the year, culinary events and tastings, workshops and cooking team building.

Inside the Roddi Castle, thanks to a donation by his family, it will be opened, at the same time, the museum dedicated to Giacomo Morra, historic hotelier and restaurateur of the hotel “Savona” of Alba, who was rightly crowned King of Truffles already in 1933 by the “Times” of London and who was a pioneer in the international tourist promotion of Langhe through the Tuber Magnatum Pico.

And there will also be initiatives dedicated to wine with Strada del Barolo, which will offer, inside the Truffle Kitchen, food tastings as well as the renowned Wine Tasting Experiences®.

OPENING PROGRAMME

– Friday, October 30th, 6.00pm: ribbon-cutting ceremony of tɛrra, the International School of Alba White Truffle, and the Giacomo Morra museum inside the Roddi Municipal Castle, with inaugural toast offered by Strada del Barolo and grandi vini di Langa.

– Saturday, October 31st and Sunday, November 1st from 11.00am to 6.00pm: open day. The school will be open to all, free of charge, to be visited and get information.

– Saturday, October 31st, 6.00pm: at the International Fair of the White Truffle, in the Beppe Fenoglio hall, in Alba, show cooking of the chef Giovanni Naviglia from the FoodLab Academy.

– Every weekend in November – Saturday and Sunday – two cooking sessions with practical lessons lasting about two hours, from 11.00 am to 1.00pm and from 6.00pm to 8pm.

It will be a new challenge for the Roddi Castle, but also for the whole territory of Langhe and Roero, which will have, in the Truffle Cooking School a new tourist attraction and a precious service for the operators.

«It’s an important day for Roddi, because finally we can finish a project that has gone on for years and, at the same time, lay the foundations for the future of the castle. The new activity of the International Truffle Cooking School represents the contribution that our municipality can give to the local tourism, with a modern approach that respects tradition, in a unique and enchanting location. A good start to begin drawing attention to our castle and think quickly to its total recovery and restoration.» Roberto Giacosa, mayor of Roddi.

«The Barolo & Castles Foundation is working for the development and networking of the most significant castles of Langhe and Roero. After more than five years of activities of the Wine Museum in Barolo and the management of the Castle of Serralunga d’Alba, thanks to the synergy with the museum centre of the Piedmont Region, we are adding to Roddi, with the International School of Alba White Truffle, a fundamental element for the promotion and tourist accommodation of the whole territory. Thanks to the expertise and professionalism of Turin FoodLab Academy and followed, during this journey, by a professional as the chef Luciano Tona, Roddi will soon become a landmark for the entire area and beyond.» Tino Cornaglia, chairman of the Barolo & Castles Foundation.

«We really believe in the project tɛrra, because it allows us to share the experience gained in ten years of teaching, relationships and professionalism. We are enthusiastic about the idea of building the contents of a new reality in the area of Langhe, treasure for the Italian cuisine, with a huge potential as pioneer and a rooted tradition with great possibilities of evolution. In tɛrra, we see the possibility of doing business involving professionals with whom we have been working for a long time and with whom we want to continue to grow ideas and visions.» Chef John Naviglia and Alessandra Pollifroni, FoodLab Torino.

The Harvest of the Gnomes

Posted on: October 4th, 2015 by Mario Ferrero

Saturday, October 3rd 2015, Cantina Josetta Saffirio of Monforte d’Alba opens its doors in the middle of the harvest season and offers an afternoon of activities dedicated to families with guided tours, wine tastings, the traditional “merenda sinoira”, and workshops for the little ones.

Vendemmia con gli gnomi

Adults can leave their children with our assistant (and gnomes!) and be guided to discover the secrets of the winery and wine barrel storage, where the wine quietly ages. Children between 5 and 10 years, starting from 3.30pm, will have the opportunity to take part in “The Harvest of the Gnomes”. Accompanied by a children’s entertainer, they will enjoy a fun experience in contact with nature, between rows of grapes immersed in the magical atmosphere of the grape harvest. But above all they will have the opportunity to discover the history of the gnomes: the tradition of this wine producing company says that these creatures of the forest help the farmers, taking care of the animals and checking the wine cellar, in return for some wine. Still today, the gnomes are one of the symbols of the company and have made the labels, illustrated by Josetta Saffirio, famous all over the world. The children’s activity will end at the Winery Tasting Room with tasty snacks, prepared with some of the company’s products.

To conclude, the adults will be delighted with a “merenda sinoira”, a traditional Langhe evening brunch, which will include a tasting of the company wines paired with bread, salami and cheese.

Cost: 10 euros per person (adults and children)
Children are required to wear rubber boots for the grape pressing and a change of clothes to change into at the end of the activity.
Booking compulsory by calling: +39 0173 787278 or +39 335 1328474 or sending an email to: info@josettasaffirio.com
Duration: 2.5 hours

Nascetta Story – national premiere

Posted on: October 3rd, 2015 by Mario Ferrero

Friday October 2nd 2015, 8.45pm, Reception Hall of the Novello Castle, via G. Marconi 4, Novello (CN).

Nascetta Story

After two years in the making, the Stuffilm is pleased to present the national premiere of Nascetta Story, a documentary film that tells the story of Langa wine, created by Federico Moznich and Nemo Villeggia, sponsored by Strada del Barolo e grandi vini di Langa, the Municipality of Novello and the Union of Municipalities of the Hills of Langa and of the Barolo wine.

Nascetta Story is not only the journey of the rediscovery of a native vine but is above all the story of a world too often left on the margins. It is the story of the passion that wine producing farmers hold for their craft. It tells the story of a wine lover who, whilst traveling through the vineyards of Novello, in the Barolo Langa, discovers that to really understand the wine you have to know its history.

“One drinks, tastes, talks about wine but few are those who know what is behind a bottle of wine”

The 2nd October screening, with a national premiere, at the Reception Hall of the Novello Castle is free and open to the public. Refreshments will follow the screening.

From October 2nd, the DVD will be on sale at nascettastory.com and in bookstores.
