July 26th and August 23rd: evening visits to Langa manor, opening unpublished spaces usually excluded from the visit.
The castle halls where you’ll be able to hear, thanks to the guide, the fascinating stories of the manor and his defensive systems in the Middle Ages and, in addition, the most personal anecdotes of the owners, the Falletti family. But also the old cellars, the round tower stairs and the square tower interior, on the top of the castle where, on a clear day, you can have one of the most beautiful and romantic visuals of all the Langa. It’s “The secret castle” revealing itself in Serralunga. The original castle guided tours, planned in environments normally not included in the traditional tourist route, will come back also this year. Spaces usually enclosed, full of history and mystery, rooms that normally doesn’t see the sunlight and, starting from last year, became to be open to the public for their first format visits suggested from Barolo&Castles Foundation with the cooperation of Polo Museale del Piemonte.
A visit, that also becomes adventure, across one of the most charming castles built in this area, considered by many people one of the best preserved examples of fourteenth-century noble building of Piedmont. A so “vertical” manor that, once on top of its summit, it will seem you to touch the sky with a finger while, in front of you, you will enjoy an inexhaustible view, from the UNESCO heritage hills to the alpine archway. For that occasion, each visitor will be equipped with an helmet, to make feel you as explorers.

Friday, July 21st: Barolo toast, between history and tradition
Raise your wineglasses, Prosit! appointment will be back on July 21st! A toast around the sunset hour, between history and tradition, in the medieval Serralunga d’Alba Castle with a double glass of Barolo “The King of Wines”.
The hills, nowadays World Heritage site, have traditionally been an essential component of the local economy, and the landscape, since the age of lords Falletti, who lived in this castle in 14th century, have always been at the heart of job and everyday life. The same goes for the wine, which had a woven history with those of the manor and its owners over the centuries, until the middle of 19th century when, under the management of “Opera Pia Barolo”, the building became an important storage for the agricultural economy of Serralunga d’Alba.
For Prosit 2017 edition! – the third Friday of each month – two tours are planned: the first at 6.30 p.m. with an Italian speaker, and the second one at 7.30 p.m. with an English speaker. The guides will accompany the participants for the unedited tour discovering the medieval castle rooms, the territory and its wines.
First of all there will be the visit to the salons, with a lot of anecdotes and curiosities about the castle history, and also about the uniqueness of wine produced here. Then, on the third and last floor – whose view ranges from the rolling hills of Langhe to the alpine archway – the participants will be able to taste the Barolo of some of best and most historic Cru of the entire production area, tasting wine of two winegrowing enterprises for each appointment. The tasting will be a true narrative with the local producers who, in addition to offering their wines, will explain and will indicate the vineyards from which they are produced.
Next two appointments are planned for Friday, August 18th and Friday, September 15th.
THE VISIT
You’ll start from the garden, then you’ll proceed to the tallest walkway of the highest floor, initially protected by battlements, still visible, and then covered by the roof. At the end of this visit, when the sun is still high on the horizon, you will be able to admire the entire territory of the lowest Langhe hills at 360 degrees, going to identify the Barolo production areas and the landscape with its regular and ordered vineyards.
The guide will reveal anecdotes and curiosities about the castle history and its relationship closely linked to the local farm activities, from the Middle Ages to Luigi Einaudi, a great wine lover who was interested in making the manor house bought by the state, to which it still belongs, entrusted to the Polo Museale del Piemonte.
The guided tour will end on the top floor, where participants will be able to “read the landscape” with the guide before the tasting with the producers.
The event is promoted by the Barolo & Castles Foundation in agreement with the Polo Museale del Piemonte, to which the castle, state ownership, is entrusted.
