More than a thousand toasts prove the succes of Io, Barolo in Roddi

Posted on: May 28th, 2018 by Mario Ferrero

Wine enthusiasts from all over Italy and the world.

Six consecutive editions, without losing the capability to grow and evolve. Saturday May 6th, Io, Barolo 2018, an event dedicated to the King of Wines and organised by Strada del Barolo, welcomed, in the historic centre of Roddi, more than a thousand wine enthusiasts coming from all over Piedmont as well as Lombardy, Liguria, Emilia Romagna, and other regions of central Italy. There were also visitors from other countries: from Belgium to Australia, Brasil, Israel and United States of America.

A young public, 25-40 years old the most representative age range, tasted the wines of more than 30 producers located between piazza Umberto I and the evocative courtyard in front of the Roddi Castle. The in-depth seminars named Food&Wine Experience and the Wine Tasting Experience® 4.0 were already sold-out in presale both in Italian and in English.

A great number of producers personally attended the event, such as Amalia Cascina in Langa, Arnaldo Rivera, Barale F.lli, Boasso Franco, Bric Cenciurio, Cadia, Cagliero, Cascina del Monastero, Cascina Sòt, Ciabot Berton, Costa di Bussia – Tenuta Arnulfo, Crissante Alessandria, Diego Pressenda, Franco Conterno, Fratelli Serio & Battista Borgogno, Gian Piero Marrone, Gigi Rosso, La Biòca, Le Strette, Marchesi di Barolo, Monchiero F.lli, Diego Morra, Negretti, Olivero Mario, Rizieri, Silvano Bolmida, Sordo Giovanni. Others were represented by a tasting counter, like: Bel Colle, Filippo Broccardo e F.lli, Josetta Saffirio, La Fusina, Palladino, Podere Ruggeri Corsini.

The cooperation with Terra Academy led to the making of several dishes made with the food members of Strada del Barolo, like AgriSalumeria Luiset, I Pascoli di Amaltea, La Cucina di Pina, Il Germoglio dei Sapori, Ghiotto Galfré and Consorzio per la Tutela del Formaggio Robiola di Roccaverano. The courses were served by the Academy students.

Also the music entertainment was very much appreciated. The musician Daniele Agnello and the duo Nicolò Zanettin & Gianluca Montanella performed on different stages during the entire evening, alternating their own songs to covers of famous artists. The organizers of “Buone Visioni”, a film festival that between June and July brings art films in the exclusive location of the Roddi Castle in the heart of Langhe, projected a clip on the wall of the castle assembling pieces of films about wine. The artist Furio Foa exhibited his paintings made with wine in a journey that has its roots in his passion for wine that here, imprinted on canvas goes from liquid to material.

Also part of the entertainment were the youngs of Cantina Social, a communication project started in 2015 with the aim of presenting the world of wine in an accessible, informal and funny way. In less than three years they have reached more than 75 thousand followers on Instagram. During the event they made a live streaming which had a great success and presented a corner where it was possible to chat about Barolo and the event itself.

The event was organized with the support of Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Cuneo, Associazione per il Patrimonio dei Paesaggi Vitivinicoli di Langhe-Roero e Monferrato and thanks to the cooperation with Municipality and Pro Loco di Roddi, Barolo&Castles Foundation and Turismo in Langa.

The Barolo Vineyards: a Tour of the “Crus” with tasting

Posted on: May 28th, 2018 by Mario Ferrero

Sunday, 27 May, 2018: a guided tour in the Barolo vineyards, to closely discover some of the most famous “crus” where the “King of wines” come from.

Strada del Barolo organises a tour in some of the main production areas of Barolo for a group of 20-25 people, guided by a wine expert and a naturalist, who will have the opportunity to understand the factors that influence the traits and the many characteristics of Barolo.

Aim of the tour

The terrain geological composition, the exposure, the slope and the altitude are all factors that determine the character of this great wine. These factors can be summed up with the term “cru”, a French word that indicates the part of a vineyard with its own peculiarities. The tour aims at explaining in a very simple and “experiential” way this concept, through a ring route, with stops in three “crus” in the municipalities of Serralunga d’Alba, La Morra and Barolo. At the end there will be a tasting on the enchanting panoramic terrace of Castiglione Falletto.

Programme

The group will move with a minivan and will be led by two exceptional guides: Sandro Minella, sommelier, tourist guide and “storyteller” of Strada del Barolo and Edmondo Bonelli, naturalist guide, paleontologist and oenologist, author of the clamorous fossil findings along the banks of the Tanaro river.

The tour starts on Sunday morning, at 10.00am from Castiglione Falletto towards Serralunga d’Alba, in the area of the so called Elvetian Barolo, where the soils are marked by limestone-clay components which give birth to a structured, alcoholic Barolo, which generally has a long aging. Here will be the visit to the first “cru” of the day.

The second stop will be in La Morra for a visit to the second “cru”, in the area of the Tortonian Barolo, a geologically younger area with soils characterised by high marl and sandy components tat gives the wines particular refinement and elegance.

The group will then move to Barolo to visit the third “cru”, in an area that gathers together the traits of the previous areas, with soils characterised by an incredible variety of microelements.

The tour will end at 13.00pm with arrival at the panoramic terrace of the Municipal Cellar of Castiglione Falletto, where it will be possible to taste the Barolo coming from the “crus” visited in the morning. Visitors will have the opportunity to find in a glass all the complexity of the terroir discovered during the tour. It will be funny and exciting recognizing the differences of the different labels of Barolo after understanding the factors where these peculiarities come from.

The tasting will be paired with a selection of cheeses and cold cuts prepared by the Municipal Cellar of Castiglione Falletto.
