On the occasion of Vinum, the National Wine Fair of Langhe, Roero and Monferrato, held in Alba from 23 April to 8 May 2022, the Strada del Barolo organizes two tours in the Barolo vineyards, to discover the excellence and prestige of some of the most famous “MGA“, Menzioni Geografiche Aggiuntive, in English Additional Geographical Indications, often known as “cru”, from which the “King of Wines” originates. A journey through some of the main production areas of Barolo, dedicated to passionate wine lovers interested in knowing the factors that determine the character and the infinite facets that Barolo can take.
The geological composition of the soil, the exposure, the slope and the altitude combine with the human factor and contribute to determine the character of this great wine: these factors can be summarized with the term “cru”, a word borrowed from the French, which indicates the portion of a vineyard with peculiar characteristics, a unique microclimate and – inevitable and decisive – the work of man. A magical microcosm capable of making each wine unique.
The purpose of the tour is to make this concept understood in a simple and “experiential” way, through a circular path, with a visit to three Barolo vineyards, accompanied by a professional sommelier, to learn about the peculiarities of soil, climate and human work that have determined the characteristics that will be found in the glass. The visit will end with the tasting of the three Barolo wines of which the vineyards were visited, explained by the sommelier and paired with cheeses and cured meats, at the winery of one of the producers involved.
The tours will be held on Sunday 24 April and Saturday 7 May, with departure at 9.30 from the stands of Vinum, in Piazza Medford 3 in Alba (CN), and return around 14.00. The groups will then move with a 30-seater minibus and will be accompanied by Emanuel Mattea, sommelier and AIS taster, a Nebbiolo lover, and professor of the Wine Tasting Experiences® of the Strada del Barolo.
Sunday 24 April:
The tour will be in Italian, with the possibility of translation into English.
The cost of the ticket is € 40.00 per person and includes the guided tour by minivan and the tasting of 3 glasses of Barolo and a mixed platter of cold cuts and cheeses.
