Tuesday 1 May 2012: in the heart of the Barolo production region in search for hints to discover, in a fun way a land full of emotions
“Treasure hunt in the Langhe of Barolo” – Where, why and how
Tuesday 1st May, as part of the Primavera della Cultura del Gusto e del Vino (Spring of the Culture of Taste and Wine) and the 36th edition of Vinum, the tiny and enchanting hamlets and hills in the heart of Langhe of Barolo will host the 3rd edition of the “Treasure Hunt”, organized by Turismo in Langa with the cooperation of Strada del Barolo e Grandi Vini di Langa, the city of Alba and the involved municipalities.
The procedure is that of the traditional treasure hunt, with a peculiarity that turns it into something really special: the itinerary is outlined to “dig out” the hints stretched along a hill territory which is unique all over the world. In fact it is a candidate to become a Unesco World heritage site. You will be surrounded by breathtaking landscapes, hills combed by vineyards, historical cellars, castles and small hamlets which overlook views of incredible beauty.
We are in the deepest heart of the Barolo Langhe, in the territory of the Municipalities of La Morra, Barolo, Novello, Verduno, Castiglione Falletto and others, where the Langa offers the best of itself. Here you can find the most precious Cru, and the cellars where Barolo and other extraordinary wines, renowned and appreciated worldwide, are produced. Of course, the first and compulsory stop will be to the stalls of the Vinum exhibition in Alba.
The proposal to all the wine tourists, wine enthusiasts and those who love the fine things and wants to spend a different day with friends or family is to reach this Piedmontese corner and discover it in a fun way at a time of the year when Langhe starts giving their best.
The hunting itinerary shall be covered by car or by motorcycle, to allow the participants to visit a wide area of the Langhe territory. But, pay attention: this is not a competition! The aim is to spend a day with friends, those you bring with you and those you’ll meet during the tour, in the cellars, in the vineyards and in the villages squares, and to discover the territory and its precious resources: a great cuisine, excellent food and wine products, relaxing atmosphere, nice people, small treasures of history and art and very ancient popular traditions. Take your time; don’t think about reaching the finishing line. The Treasure Hunt in the Barolo Langa has to be enjoyed more than simply played, even if the game is the engine for researching and of course… discovering.
The hints and clues that will be spread around the territory will be inspired by wine and food traditions, popular traditions, and the of these touching lands. They will provide a “full-immersion” in the spirit and the “art de vivre” of Langhe, and allow you to fully breath the special air and take in the atmosphere that the world envies of these hills’ inhabitants.
The Hunt will be structured in such a way that the teams (between one and five participants) who will join in will be able to move along many itineraries, which will have the same characteristics, pleasantness and length. Both the wine lovers and the families with children will have the possibility to have fun and enjoy themselves with a day full of emotions. And since in Langhe eating is extremely important, you will have the possibility to dine in one of the facilities involved in the event with all the calm and tranquillity you need.
“Rules” of the game
The meeting will be at 10:30am in Piazza Risorgimento in the centre of Alba: there the teams (a minimum of two and a maximum of five people with their means of transport: car, motorcycle, bicycle or camper van) shall accredit and receive the kit for the treasure hunt. The departures shall continue until 11am. The Hunt awards prizes but it’s not competitive. Do not run when leaving and drive with caution!
From the starting base, the teams will move towards the Historical centre of Alba, where the first hint is “hidden”. From that moment, the hunt will become a continuous moving up and down of the hills and the vineyard rows of the Barolo Langhe, and among the small villages surrounded by nature. During every stop of the Hunt you will obtain the hint to reach the following one and you shall work for it: sometimes with a small test connected with the place, sometimes asking somebody to disclose it, or simply by searching for it around you. Every stop, settled in natural panoramic viewpoints or in special places such as cellars, farms, tourist attractions of the historical centres will offer a portion of the territory, a story to tell, a voice to listen to, a vine-dresser to follow in the cellar.
Every proof will provide the team with a score so to assess a final classification: the last stop will gather all the teams in the late afternoon (about 5:00pm) for the final award ceremony with a tasting of the products of Strada del Vino Barolo and the drawing of different prizes such as: wines, typical products, overnight stays and evening dinners in the territory facilities in order to continue breathing the air of Langhe…
